I've heard friends talk about grilling their romaine. I thought they were crazy, but I recently tried it because we had a wilting romaine, and I thought, what the heck?
I googled what to do with the romaine, and I found a recipe I liked. I sold it to my kids as BBQ'd Cesar Salad.
Ingredients
1 romaine
1 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp Montreal steak spice
2 tbsp parmasean cheese
2 tbsp- 4 tbsp gf croutons (we got our gf croutons during Passover)
2 tbsp lemon juice
Directions

1 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp Montreal steak spice
2 tbsp parmasean cheese
2 tbsp- 4 tbsp gf croutons (we got our gf croutons during Passover)
2 tbsp lemon juice
Directions
- Cut the romaine in half length wise and flip cut side up
- Drizzled olive oil and Montreal steak spice over romaine cut side up
- Place on BBQ set to medium heat cut side down for 5 minutes, or until nicely charred. I read that the romaine can handle it. Some pieces might should crisp up like kale chips, some will wilt, and some will char.
- When ready, place cut side up. Drizzle Parmesan cheese, gf croutons and lemon juice.
Cut and serve! Amanda and I eat a whole half each. We use a steak knife to cut because the lettuce is wilted and doesn't cut well with anything less.
