Grocery store chains are getting into the action with their own line of gluten free products. Earlier this year Our Compliments introduced their own line of gluten free breads and mixes. Our Compliments went through the Canadian Celiac Association Gluten Free Certification Program in order to gain the confidence of consumers that these products are being made safely and meet a higher standard of gluten free.
We tried a couple of the products, including their gluten free cinnamon bread and chocolate cake mix.
The gluten free cinnamon bread was okay, but not great. I think Amanda did prefer Udi's cinnamon bread over Our Compliments but it was certainly nice to see these well stocked on the shelf. Below is a picture of the cake mix. I am not the baker, but I took a stab at using this mix to make Amanda's birthday cake this year. As you can I kind of messed up on the baking part with the misshaped cake. Please don't blame Our Compliments for that! That was totally my incompetence with baking. None the less, the cake actually tasted really good and was really moist. The cake mix is something we would buy again. I topped this off with Betty Crockers icing mix which is gluten free as well.
Sorry but did you check the prices of the Sobey products? I know GF is more expensive, but at the Sobey stores I checked out it was pure extortion.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the products are always stale at my Sobey's at Namao.
ReplyDeleteTrue, prices are very high. We tried the gfree mini brownies and they were excellent. the shelves in the St. Albert Sobeys are pretty bare.
ReplyDeleteAccurate, costs are extremely higher. All of us attempted the actual gfree small brownies plus they had been superb. the actual racks within the Street. Albert Sobeys tend to be fairly uncovered.
